Majorca (Mallorca) has been a well-liked vacation spot since the 1960s when cheap holidays to Majorca were first introduced. There are various affordable self-catering flats and outstanding hotels all over the island.

MAJORCA APARTMENTS If you are on a tight budget stay at one of the many self-catering apartments in the popular resorts. You can stock up with groceries from the local supermarket and buy fresh fruit and vegetables from the local markets. This will cut down on costs and is also very healthy. Although there are many affordable places to eat in Majorca it can work out expensive especially if there are a lot of you.

CHEAP HOTELS IN MAJORCA There are a number of lovely inexpensive hotels in the beach resorts of Magaluf and Palma Nova on the south west of the island and in Pollenca and Alcudia in the north. Should you choose to stay in Palma there are numerous hotels which are ideal for cheap holidays to Majorca. Good deals are to be found on bed and breakfast accommodation and also on half-board and full-board accommodation in the hotels in Majorca.

CHEAP FLIGHTS TO MAJORCA This stunning island is just a two hour flight from the UK and there are lots of low-cost flights to Palma with budget airlines including Ryan Air and Easy Jet. Son Sant Joan airport is full of stores, cafes, restaurants and cafes and only eight kilometers east of the city of Palma and there is a shuttle-bus which takes only 30 minutes to the center of Palma.

DAY TRIPS IN MAJORCA There are many things to do in Majorca and they don’t have to be expensive. You can take journeys to inland villages such as the lovely Deia and Valdemossa on the north east coastline of the island. Buses are an inexpensive type of transport and if you take the coastal road to either of these villages you will be rewarded with the most beautiful views. Alternatively, it is possible to take the Soller train from Palma and admire the wonderful views of mountains and orange and lemon groves you pass along the way. Then take the tram to the port of Soller which is also an excellent vacation resort. As the tram weaves its way through the orchards of fruit it would be easy to stretch out and touch them. If you are on a tight budget the Soller train can be quite expensive so the cheapest route to take is with the coastal bus.

PALMA DE MAJORCA Palma is the historic and cultural capital of Majorca and of the Balearic Islands. The lovely 14th Century Gothic Palma Cathedral is a popular landmark overlooking the waterfront and marina. Only a few yards away is the incredible Palace of the Almudena. About a fifteen minute stroll from the middle of city is the charming harbor full of yachts and edged with hotels, eating places, beach-side cafes and clubs.

This is a lovely place to visit at any time of the day and in the evening as you can stroll along the promenade and stop for a drink or something to eat at one of the popular restaurants or bars. There are several fantastic low-cost hotels along the harbor and the Hotel Costa Azul and Almudena Hotel are only a short distance from Paseo Maritimo and 5 minutes from the center of the city. You can also rent an apartment in Palma and stock up with food at Olivar Market where you will also find a Mercadonna supermarket.

Magaluf is overflowing with clubs, restaurants, pubs and cafes and has the best night-life for the 18-30 crowd. This is a party resort and fantastic for families and friends who enjoy a lively and entertaining holiday in the sun. Although the neighboring resort of Palma Nova can be a little more peaceful throughout the evenings both resorts have stunning sun drenched sandy beaches, sparkling blue sea which make this the perfect place for cheap holidays to Majorca.

ALCUDIA & POLLENCA On the north coast are Pollenca and Alcudia and both have a large selection of affordable hotels and apartments. The 10km of white sandy beach and warm shallow waters of Alcudia attract lots of families with young children. This is the longest beach on the island with a variety of water sports so wonderful for families and friends. The resort has numerous supermarkets so if you are renting an apartment you have no problem stocking up with groceries. The nightlife is good and there are a lot of shops, restaurants and bars so the perfect location for all of the family.
