Mother and Daughter Vacations

by on Mar.04, 2013, under Travel

When it comes to seeking appealing holiday activities, mothers and daughters are usually on the same page, whether it’s lounging in luxury spas or shopping in local markets, this makes them the best of travel companions. If you do decide to take a break with your mother or daughter, it’s a great idea to do your homework first and check which local attractions are nearby so you can enjoy the ultimate girlie-fun getaway.

To return from your holidays feeling like a pair of Greek goddesses, the island of Mykonos offers a heavenly experience. Fans of Greek food, culture and shopping will love this island which is one of the most cosmopolitan of the Greek islands.

The capital, Mykonos Town, is filled with little boutiques, cafes and bars. The little Venice area with its picturesque medieval houses is an enchanting part of the city to spend an evening out with your mum or daughter. The tavernas sitting on the waterfront serve delicious seafood and traditional Greek fare with a stunning setting in which to toast the holiday.

Marrakech is just the ticket for mothers and daughters with a sense of adventure. The exotic Moroccan city is famous throughout the world for its souks, so it’s an ideal place to do some serious shopping. Browse the maze-like streets in search of shiny objects and soft leather goods. The Djemma el Fna, the main square within the old city is a must-do for all mothers and daughters.

The sights, smells and sounds of snake charmers, entertainers, traders and crowds mingle to create an intoxicating atmosphere. Sharing a drink on one of the rooftop terraces surrounding the square is a gentle way to escape the jostling crowds and enjoy the scene together. For an unforgettable treat, take a hot-air balloon ride over the city to get an aerial view or head out into the desert on a camel safari.

Top Ways to Keep Active on Holiday

by on Mar.02, 2013, under Travel

When the mood takes you, Mediterranean resorts offer a variety of fun activities to enjoy. So get out there and keep active, rather than spending your whole holiday sat on the sun lounger!

Protaras has a host of vibrant bars and restaurants, many of which stay open into the small hours. This is one of the reasons many Mediterranean holidaymakers are in the area. Take a taxi to the nearby resort of Ayia Napa for some serious clubbing though, with a wide selection of clubs and bars where 24-hour party people congregate to dance the night away. It may not be clean living but dancing is certainly fantastic exercise.

The glittering Aegean playground of Kusadasi is an obvious choice for sun-worshippers, but there are numerous sights to explore while you stretch your legs and work up an appetite for the next meal. The most famous, of course, is the historic city of Ephesus, one of the most beautiful and best preserves sites of the ancient world. Dating back to 3000 BC, the Romans, Greeks, Lydians and even the legendary Amazons have left traces of their civilization and mythology here.

You can treat your body as a temple by booking a traditional Turkish bath, or hamam, if exploring ancient monuments sounds a bit too much like hard work. The time-honoured rituals will leave you looking as glowing as you feel with hot and cold pools, massage, treatments for face and body all being available.

Mykonos is one of the best resorts in the Mediterranean for scuba diving, and if you’ve never tried it before, there are plenty of introductory courses available. These will allow you to explore beneath those sapphire waters safely during the course of your holiday, whilst experienced divers can get to grips with underwater photography, night diving, deep diving and other advanced skills. If you want to get to know the world beneath the surface of the sea (without going to deep), snorkelling is also available.
