World’s Crappiest Airline Companies

by on Jul.27, 2015, under Travel

Here is my list of the worst airline companies in the world!

1. TACA AIRLINES (PERU BASED)

In Peru you should make sure you never fly with Taca. They are cheap and they are shit, they are one of the worst airline companies around. They cancel flights all the time with no warning and they don’t show any signs of customer service.

2. JETSTAR (budget airline owned by QANTAS, AUSTRALIA)

Despite initially loving their cheap kick-ass fares, Jetstar quickly proved their lack of customer service to me in 2011. I had started a new job and been lucky to be given a whopping THREE days off in my first month, just so I could fly all the way back to the UK to attend a wedding. One of my best mates as a child was Michael McClelland and so I wanted to be there in Belfast for his big day. It would also be my first time in Northern Ireland for some 800 days – my longest ever time away from my native land. So I booked 2 flights with Jet Star as it was just so cheap even with connections, I then booked another two flights with Air Asia and Easyjet meaning I could get home to Michael’s wedding, but would have 4 flights to take, a half day in Kuala Lumpur and a full day in Paris on route. Two cities I’d been to before, but hey I could see family and attend a wedding and keep my job as a school teacher in Hong Kong. All the flights were cheap. All looking good.

3. AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS

In Argentina I had a nightmare with Aerolineas as they scheduled a flight of mine before the first flight had even left the city the second flight needed to be in, in order for it to arrive on time.

– changed the time of my first flight THREE times

– moved me to a completely different airport in Buenos Aires

– cancelled one of my flights (the third flight)

– delayed the new flight they put me on (refusing to even give me a FREE COFFEE)

– and most ridiculous of all they later scheduled me onto a second flight which would leave before the first flight had landed. Their excuse for this was a computer error.

4. Airline Company Cathay Pacific

They lost my bag in 2012 on a long haul flight from Hong Kong to Heathrow. When my bag didn’t arrive in Heathrow I had no time to waste as my connection to Belfast City Airport was in 55 minutes so I had no time to even complain. Again I have to thank my girlfriend who sourced my bag in the end. It was still in Hong Kong 3 days later and was found. Cathay Pacific offered NOTHING in compensation, but eventually delivered my bag (safe and sound) to my parents home where I was staying for a week.

5. Horrible company Air Asia

Where do I start – Air Asia are fucking atrocious! I have been on about 7 – 8 Air Asia flights down the years and they have never ever once been on time. They never offer you any kind of compensation and their customer service level is shocking. I can’t begin to say how much I despise Air Asia. Please take my advice and NEVER use them. My recent Air Asia experience in Hong Kong Airport was actually the catalyst for this blog post. Here’s a quick overview of what happened.

– Air Asia are a shit airline company

So fellow travellers, please let me know what airline companies you think are terrible. This is my list of 5 shit airline companies, all from personal travel experiences. I won’t be booking with them again or recommending them. And a travel writer and blogger is exactly the person they don’t need to upset.

So chin up and happy travels and don’t let these horrible companies get you down!

Cheap Getaways for St. Patrick’s Day

by on Apr.11, 2013, under Travel

St. Patrick’s day; a day dedicated to the patron saint of Ireland or for many of us, a great excuse to don a leprechaun hat and drink Guinness. If there’s one thing that’s certain however, it is that the day is a great excuse for a party whether you’re Irish or not!

Dublin is probably the destination where the majority of holidaymakers will head. The Irish capital is throwing a festival over the long weekend which consists of street performances, music, Irish comedy, walking tours and of course the opportunity to visit the Guinness factory and sample a pint of the black stuff whilst looking at panoramic city views in the Skybar.

Alternatively Mytravel.com offers flights and accommodation in a number of destinations where you will find the cost of revelling to be a lot cheaper. Moscow is one such example and the Russian city has strangely been celebrating St. Patrick’s Day since 1992 with a parade that is steadily increasing in size. Expect to see Cossack horsemen and marching bands.

The Amsterdam Gaelic Athletic Club is hosting an Invitational Tournament this St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Teams from the UK and Ireland are both invited, so if you travel to Amsterdam for St. Paddy’s you’re bound to find great craic and the opportunity to watch traditional Gaelic sport, such as hurling, being played.

Hungary is famed for its pretty scenery and cheap beer, making it an excellent destination to visit on St. Patrick’s day and mytravel.com have a great variety of hotels in the capital city, Budapest. Budapest is host to an excellent St. Patricks day festival, taking place over four days and including an Irish film festival, gala dinner, parade, face-painters, musicians and dancers. If you do end up having one too many pints of the black stuff, you can always appease the hangover the next day with a relaxing soak in one of the city’s famous Baths.

Wherever you decide to spend St Patrick’s Day you should be prepared to party Irish style, after all everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s day!
