A lot of people cringe when they take into consideration moving. They think of endlessly searching through box after box for things they need. There is the packing, the boxes, the tape, the JOB. But it must not be this type of crazy time. You can get organized making your move go pretty smoothly. Try these organizational tips for a smoother move.
Make a List
Actually, you are going to make several lists. Make a list of products you’re packing for each room in the house. Label this list as Living Room, Bath Room, Susie’s Room, etc. List the things you’re moving, leaving room towards the top for priority items (we’ll get to this later). Star items that are mandatory to the first night.
Get plenty of Supplies
You’ll need boxes, tape, packing material, labels and pens. Using different colored highlighters or different colored stickers is a good idea. But have more than you believe you will need, cause you will want far more than you think. Most movers are going to take your unused boxes, so do not be shy. The last thing you need is to be scrambling around on moving day shopping for packing material or tape, or dumpster diving for boxes.
Make Labels (lots of them) And Use Them
Get labels for each room in the house and print out countless them. You will put a label on either side with the box, upper right corner or upper left corner, it doesn’t matter. The thing is to save yourself time spinning boxes searching for the label that tells you where each goes. Assign a colour to each room and slap a colored sticker to utilize a highlighter around the label. That way, you have a quick visual also.
Prioritize your Packaging
Bear in mind those items you noted on your list as priority? Well, you want to pack them last so that they will be loaded on the truck last and unloaded first. Before you begin packing, grab a suitcase or perhaps a handful of boxes and place several changes of garments, toiletries, towels, mouthwash, sheets, blankets along with other stuff you have to have readily available that first day within your new house. Oh, also keep in mind your toothbrush, or maybe your coffee pot, coffee, sugar and creamer. Needless to say, different families and folks will have different needs, make absolutely certain you have your survival kit packed and protected from overzealous moving services who may toss it around the truck not knowing what it is. Maybe place it inside your car or somewhere handy.
Make your New Place Unpacking Pleasant
At the new place, label each room utilizing the same system you labeled your containers. This way, anyone helping can look on the box and sees Susie’s Room then starts to see the coordinating label about the door of Susie’s new room. You can just write the labels on pieces of paper and tape them to the door facing of every room. In this way, the boxes find the way to each room where they belong along with your move and next unpacking goes way smoother.
