Eating Out in Tenerife

There are many reasons why we like to go abroad; the climate, the beach, the museums. Many of us prefer certain types of holidays over another; some prefer an active holiday whilst others opt for something more relaxing. But there are also certain qualities which appeal to the masses and close to if not sitting right at the top of that list is cuisine. Although we live in an age where we have more opportunity to dine on international cuisine in the comfort of your own homes, tasting it in the environment of it’s home country and cooked up by the inhabitants, giving it that authentic taste is far superior than a take-away meal for one. If Tenerife is under consideration for your next trip abroad, rest assured that it isn’t just the beaches and the weather that will make your stay an enjoyable one.

If you are a fan of cheese, you will love eating in Tenerife. If you’re a fan of goat’s cheese, that is. Most cheese here is a form of goat’s cheese as that its the main type of cheese produced. Most is made of goat’s milk and that goes for both hard and soft cheese. If you don’t like goat’s cheese, you may want to stay away from it altogether as that distinct taste of goat’s cheese is always present.

Of course, being an island, fish is also prevalent on the typical restaurant menu in Tenerife. There is much variety and it is some of the finest fish you will ever taste. There are less common types of fish such as porgies, blennies or breams and for the more conventional, sardines and mackerels are typically available.

Meat is very European in flavour in the form of pork, poultry and beef. Some of the pork dishes, however, are very much a flavour of the island. This is also true of goat and rabbit.

Some of the other foods you can enjoy in Tenerife include the wonderful variety of confectionery, mojo or even wrinkly potatoes. With the superb deals you can now find for holidays to the island, it’s surprising that more don’t visit purely for the cuisine alone. It serves as an attraction all by itself.
